Working at WDYC
Are you interested in working for a club where we put our gymnasts and coaches first? Are you able to deliver an engaging and supportive gymnastics lesson for ALL gymnasts that focus on WDYC’s values: fun, friendship, fitness and fundamentals? Here at WDYC, we are here for our gymnasts and the community.
Our goal is to support all of our coaches with their coaching journey. Whether you are new to coaching, wanting to coach to support yourself through schooling/tertiary studies or you wish to become a career coach. We have many opportunities to grow and develop your coaching skills across a range of Gymsports including: Gym For All, Recreational, Kinder-gym, Aerobics, Acrobatics, Women artistic, and Tumbling. We have avenues for coaches to go down recreational or competitive coaching pathways.

How to become a coach
Becoming a gymnastics coach can be a rewarding and fulfilling career pathway. Whether you are a past athlete wanting to stay within the amazing sport of gymnastics, completing your schooling/tertiary studies or would like to become a career coach, here at WDYC we would love to help support you in your journey!
All of our coaches here at WDYC go through the Gymnastics Australia Coach Education Framework. During your journey you will be supported by our senior coaches who have many years experience or CCE (club coach educators). At the completion of obtaining your initial Fundamental Qualification you are an insured and affiliated coach with Gymnastics Australia and Gymnastics Queensland.

Gymnastics Australia Coach Education Framework has five accreditation levels, from Fundamental to High Performance. This design is to support and encourage ongoing and progressive learning, with small achievable steps in the early stages of the Framework.

As per Gymnastics Australia guidelines you must be 14 years of age to register your account and begin your Fundamental Coaches Education.
Once you turn 15 years of age you can do the final steps of your Fundamental Qualification and begin working independently.

By completing the Fundamental Gymnastics Coach course with Gymnastics Australia you become a beginner based coach who is supported by your club in developing your skills as a gymnastics coach.

To become a Fundamental Coach you must complete:
Online training
Fundamental Activity Workbook
Practical coaching volunteer hours
Online zoom session
At completion of these requirements you can send in your resume and sit for an interview for a Fundamental Coaching position at WDYC. Please note, this is limited to current position vacancies within the club.
Step One: contact WDYC to confirm we are able to support you through your Fundamental Education and training. As we will need an available Club Coach Educator (CCE) available to assist you through your workbook and volunteer hours.
Step Two: Once WDYC has confirmed we can support you through your Fundamental Workbook and Volunteer Hours, head to Gymnastics Australia website and set up your Gymnastics Australia Profile. https://members.gymnastics.org.au/
Step Three: Purchase the “Fundamental Gymnastics Coach Course” on on the Gymnastics Australia learning portal ‘Flex’ for $250.
Step Four: complete the online Fundamental Course Work.
Step Five: once you finish your fundamental course work email WDYC to advise and to request working with a CCE (club coach educator) to complete your Fundamental Activity Workbook.
Step Six: WDYC will arrange for you to do your volunteer hours and work with your CCE on completing your Fundamental Activity Workbook alongside practical coaching hours.
Step Seven: once you complete your Fundamental Activity Workbook your CCE will sign it off and you can upload this to your Gymnastics Australia ‘Flex’ Portal. You must wait for this to be approved before the next step.
Step Eight:once you are 15 years of age you will sit the final component of the Fundamental Qualification (ideally, you have had around 12 months of on the job training with WDYC by this point).
Once you have completed your Fundamental Activity Workbook and this has been approved by Gymnastics Australia you can send in your Resume to our club Manager (sam@wdgymnastics.com.au) and request an interview for a Fundamental Coaching Position.

Done your volunteer hours with us
Once you have completed these steps, you can send your resume to our Club Manager Sam (sam@wdgymnastics.com.au) to request an interview for a position as a Fundamental Coach.
*Important to note: once you turn 15 years of age you must complete the final step of the Fundamental Qualification which is an Online Zoom Session run by Gymnastics Australia. You must complete this step in order to maintain your qualification and employment with WDYC.

At WDYC we offer various In-house education opportunities for our current staff throughout the year.
Any current staff member who wishes to undertake the next step in the Gymnastics Australia Coaching Framework will be supported by the club. We will help you navigate these processes at the appropriate time.

Here at WDYC we offer a range of GymSports for coaches to work within or work between various GymSpots. To be eligible to work within a GymSport you will hold an appropriate Gymnastics Australia Qualification.
